2015 Jacksonville Beach Sandcastle Contest

Comments Off on 2015 Jacksonville Beach Sandcastle Contest

You are going to find way more than castles at the 2015 Jacksonville Beach Sandcastle Contest on Sat, April 25th. Watch the artists at work.As a kid, I remember spending many days at the beach.  When I wasn’t splashing around in the water, I was building sandcastles.  Sometimes they were small and sometimes they turned into whole cities.  This weekend, the 2015 Jacksonville Beach Sandcastle Contest will transform Jacksonville Beach into one giant sand scuplture.

What: 2015 Jacksonville Beach Sandcastle Contest
Where: Volunteer Life Saving Station (2 Ocean Front N)
When: Saturday, April 25th 9:30am
Contact: Jacksonville Beach Recreation Dept (904) 247-6236

Click here to search our featured Jacksonville/St Augustine homes for saleThe 2015 Jacksonville Beach Sandcastle Contest takes place this Saturday at the beach’s Volunteer Life Saving Station.  In the past, competitors have sculpted all kinds of sea creatures, storybook characters, mermaids, ships, cartoon characters, stadiums and even Poseidon himself.  Prizes will be handed out for several different categories.  Each entry will be judged on design, degree of difficulty and its overall appearance.  No more than three people can work on each sand sculpture.  The only exception is the “family” or group” categories.  In that case, as many as five people can help create each sculpture.

Thunderstorms are expected later in the evening.  But that’s OK.  You can’t make a good sand sculpture for the 2015 Jacksonville Beach Sandcastle Contest without wet sand, right?

If you are interested in competing in the 2015 Jacksonville Beach Sandcastle Contest, contact the Jacksonville Beach Recreation Department at (904) 247-6236 for more information.  Don’t feel artistic enough?  Come down and cheer on the competition.  Watch as these masterpieces are created right before your very eyes.  You will be amazed by the talent you are going to see on the beach.  Just make sure you get out before the tide takes them away!

Everyone in the Jacksonville community is welcome to come to the Orange Park Mean Bean Chili Cookoff.  Located just a short drive to the south of Jacksonville, Adamec Harley-Davidson will play host to several talented chefs vying for the title of Mean Bean Chili Cookoff Champion.  The competition will be broken up into two separate categories: CASI rules (Chili Appreciation Society International) and Open.  All CASI competitors will prepare their chili on-site.  Guests will have the opportunity to watch these chili maestros in action.  While Open competitors are allowed to prepare their chili off-site, they are encouraged to slice, dice, chop and stir on-site instead to really help get guests’ mouths watering.

The Orange Park Mean Bean Chili Cookoff isn’t a spectator sport…unless you want it to be.  For just $5 each, guests can purchase a wristband that allows them to sample as many different chili entries as they want.  With each wristband, guests will receive a scorecard.  On this scorecard, you will write down your top two favorite chilis.  The two chefs that accumulate the most votes will win the People’s Choice Award for the competition.

Saturday is expected to be a bit wet.  So, make sure you dress appropriately.  Proceeds from the event will benefit Wreaths Across America, an organization that places wreaths on the graves of our fallen soldiers.  Bring your friends, bring your family but, most importantly of all, bring your appetite.
