The 2015 Jacksonville Safety Fair is the first of its kind from the Sheriff’s Advisory Council.  They invite the public to watch their safety demonstrations and learn how to make your environment a much safer place to live in.  Come meet some of the officers that are in charge of your security every day.

A few years ago, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office started a collection box for expired and unused medications.  These include prescription and controlled substance medications, over-the-counter medications, samples, vitamins, creams, ointments, syrups, lotions and inhalers.  Last year, the drop box collected a record total of over 320 pounds of these medications.  They will be collecting all of these items at the 2015 Jacksonville Safety Fair as well.  Everything that is dropped off in their collection box is disposed of properly and safely.

Items Not Allowed for Collection at the 2015 Jacksonville Safety Fair

  • Aerosol cans
  • Medical waste: IV bags, used bandages, hospital gowns, bio-hazardous waste, etc
  • Mercury or Cadmium products: thermometers, batteries
  • Personal care items: non-medicated shampoo
  • Sharps items: needles, syringes, lancets, etc

The 2015 Jacksonville Safety Fair isn’t all business.  There will be fun things to do as well.  Bring your children to the fair to introduce them to our local Jacksonville police officers.  Their first experience with the police should be a positive one.  It is also a great way to teach them some valuable safety tips that they can take with them throughout their lifetime.
